Definizione

L'Information Ratio misura la capacità di un gestore di portafoglio di generare rendimenti in eccesso rispetto a un benchmark, aggiustato per il rischio assunto per ottenere quei rendimenti. Divide il rendimento attivo (rendimento del portafoglio meno rendimento del benchmark) per il tracking error (deviazione standard dei rendimenti attivi). Un Information Ratio più alto indica una migliore gestione attiva aggiustata per il rischio. Un IR sopra 0,5 è generalmente considerato buono, e sopra 1,0 è eccezionale. È particolarmente utile per valutare i gestori attivi rispetto ai loro benchmark.

Esempio

Un fondo batte il benchmark del 2% annuo con 4% di tracking error, dando un IR di 0,5. Un altro fondo batte del 3% con 8% di tracking error, dando un IR di 0,375. Il primo fondo ha migliori rendimenti attivi aggiustati per il rischio.
